9. Cookies

Essential cookies are used for service operation. Optional analytics cookies, and the third-party tools that set them, are used only based on your consent settings. Independently of cookies we keep a first-party, cookieless count of page views: it stores nothing on your device and records hourly totals per page, feature, referring domain, language, country, device, browser and operating system type, and any campaign tags in the address you arrived from. To count visitors rather than page views, we derive a pseudonymous identifier by hashing your IP address and user agent together with a secret key that changes every 24 hours. The IP address and user agent themselves are never stored, the identifier cannot be traced back to them, it changes daily, and it is deleted after at most 48 hours — only anonymous daily totals are kept beyond that. For signed-in users the account id is counted against pages opened inside the product. Both are based on our legitimate interest in operating and improving the service (GDPR art. 6(1)(f)).
